Long, hot summers are part of playing football in Lebanon. The heat can drain your energy fast, but with the right habits and the right kit you can keep training hard and stay safe.
1. Train at the right time
Plan sessions for early morning or evening, when the sun is lower and temperatures drop. Avoid the hottest hours around midday whenever you can.
2. Hydrate before you feel thirsty
Start drinking water well before training, take small sips during breaks, and keep drinking afterwards. On very hot days, a drink with electrolytes helps replace the salts you lose through sweat.
3. Wear technical fabric, not cotton
Cotton soaks up sweat and stays heavy and wet. Lightweight, breathable training wear moves sweat away from your skin so your body can cool itself more easily.
4. Choose light colours
Light-coloured shirts and shorts reflect more sunlight than dark ones, which helps you stay a little cooler during outdoor sessions.
5. Protect yourself from the sun
Use sunscreen on exposed skin, wear a cap during warm-ups and rest periods, and take breaks in the shade whenever possible.
6. Listen to your body
Dizziness, headaches, cramps or extreme tiredness are warning signs. Stop, move to the shade, drink water and cool down. No session is worth putting your health at risk.
